The Must Checkouts!

Well ..its been quite the time now since I've been on the lookout for good rock instrumentals.

Sometime back, i came across this guy called Arjan De Jong hosting a homepage where he posts his recordings. I must its simply amazing. Most of the instrumentals are pretty amazing stuff and his work vary from Rock to Blues to Jazz. He also seems to have implemented some artistic styles in his clips & recordings.
At least 4 to 5 such songs in my playlist everyday.
A Must Check Out!

You've gotta appreciate this work by Toshiro Masuda.
I came across this artist through the popular hit anime 'Naruto'. Really amazing instrumental soundtracks. Very energizing riffs and lead with amazing traditional instruments. A never-before feel. I won't say anymore about this. Please download it and feel it for yourself.

Rei Fu - Tsukiakari (Moonlight)

I've been watching this anime "Darker Than Black" for quite the time now & a certain ending theme song "Tsukiakari aka Moonlight" by a Japanese musician Rei Fu caught my attention.

Its a soothing song with beautiful lyrics with feeling of nostalgia to it. A good song to check out.

Rei Fu - Tsukiakari (Moonlight)

The translated lyrics go:
I let the light of the moon in from the blue, blue sky
I’m captured by things such as sweet and faint thoughts
Underneath this moonlight, without anyone knowing
I called out your name only
I was searching for the future forever
Within this light

On a night when it seems like I can’t tell you anything
There isn’t a moment when I don’t think about you
Never passes any day, I don’t think about it
So that my lost heart reaches you

Underneath this moonlight
Call my name
I’ll definitely go meet you, at any place
Within this light

..Yeah, the English lyrics wont make much sense until you give it a listen.

Zero - Albummed

This is Zero's First album ..should i say? Not many people know about it as it ain't available anywhere and the most of the songs are re-done in "hook" & "procrastination".
However, there are some pretty neat songs in it that the band hasn't got the hands around in the proceeding albums. And they're up for downloading!

  1. Not My Kind Of Girl
  2. Found
  3. Mama's Callin
  4. Dear Jesus
  5. Lucy - Sweet Strange Lady Friend
  6. Christmas In July
  7. All I Lost
  8. Her
  9. Old Man Sitting On The Back Porch
  10. Lost
  11. Down and Out
  12. Not Yet
  13. Not My Kind Of Girl {Reprise}
  • Songs : 2, 3, 4, 7, 11 are the new ones to look out for.
  • Songs : 1, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 13 have been done again in either Hook or Procrastination.
  • Song : 8 is a slower version of the one in procrastination with a ballad feel.
  • Those Who have been listening to Hook for a while now may find Albummed a bit raw.
Enjoy!

Zero - Hook

My Fav. Album off the Indian Rock Scene ..till date. Zero's 1st album - Hook, packs 8 superb songs worth the attention and record label that they don't get. This album is one of those days with Warren Mendonsa in the scene. Apparently, this was the first Indian Rock Album I bought. Mind blown, I got me hooked to this band.

However, the album isn't available lately in any stores and neither are there much of helping hands around. So, I am putting up the album up for download and request each one of you to check it out.

The songs aren't in order.

Visit Zero's Homepage. ('Which no longer exists' is what i thought, but guess what! Update: Website is long defunct)

Enjoy! :)

Blackstratblues - Nights In Shining Karma

Warren Mendonsa aka Blackstratblues Debut album - Nights In Shining Karma, is no doubt the best instrumental album i ever heard till date. The Songs are just plain rad with great, unmatched songwriting. Packs great sense of melody with every song, beautiful phrasing, rich layering and magical & energizing feel. I wont credit everything to warren when all the percussion & recording, mixing, production, etc are done by his younger brother Zorran, a good sound engineer. Very lucky people as they're that they released album w/o undergoing much of expenses. And a well thought of way start of by direct download and transfer of money through paypal or in person which is a good choice as with the technology, many-a-people ignore buying the stuff.
  1. Incense - A slow piece with a breezy feel to it ..a nice song to start with.
  2. Soar The Sky - I would say this is The best song from the album with superb and unusual sense of melody backed by fantastic choppy riffs. A totally blissful feel turning into a rad energizing feel from the midway. A song to watch out for.
  3. Anuva's Sky - I am pretty sure everyone knows what this song revolves around. a catchy lullaby intro and whats ahead is are some pretty neat phrasing on the same lines. the songwriting is pretty neat too ..basically just repeating with some additional phrasing with a nice emotional touch to it. it doesn't look so obvious thanks to all the rich layering in the song.
  4. Gary For Blues - A nice slow bluesy song along the lines of gary moore. which is what i believe he dedicated this song to. again ..fantastic phrasing on simple lines to digging the depths outro.
  5. With You (And nothing else to do) - I don't know how to describe this song ..sounds pretty much a slow song out of boredom or emptyness on a starry midnight.
  6. Cats and the Fiddle - A catchy fun song along the lines of his earlier song "Quackor the Metal ducky" ..which i believe was after the ducky of mandark from Dexter's laboratory. Both these songs sound like cartoon themes.
  7. Nights In Shining Karma - One of Fav from the album. A nice track to listen to on a cloudy evening ..alone at home. the keyboard bits give a nice feel to an otherwise okay/good song.
  8. Bombay Rain - This is a neat song. Although i don't know what Warren had in his mind while naming this song. the only rain factor about it was were those slide bits.. However, a superb ending. a very unusual leads by the end.
Well ..that's that! The album was released about 2 months back. and can be downloaded from -
