Top Video Game Music!

I've been lucky enough to be playing games right from Windows 95 through to Windows 7 to PlayStation 3. However, there are some games that I've had the urge to revisit thanks to their in-game music when getting the music wasn't easy. I owe it these games for introducing me to my varying taste in music and bands/artists I thought I would never listen to. They've a special place and status in my heart!

So without any further ado, here's to my Top Video Game Music.

Game: Need For Speed 2 - Special Edition
Artist: Rom Di Prisco | Song: Romulus 3
The song makes an awesome chill out track & fits the menu of the game perfectly. Makes you spend more time on the menu than playing the game itself.

Game: FIFA 98 - Road To The World Cup
Artist: Crystal Method  | Song: More
Although there were more songs by Crystal Method to this gem of a game, this song has the perfect game feeling & fits the video game menu like a charm.

Game: Pocket Tanks
Artist: DNA Groove | Song: Fabric In Time
The list that is never complete would be incomplete without mentioning Pocket Tanks. A simple & addictive game with a groovy chill out music!

Game: Dirt 2
Artist: The Stone Roses | Song: This Is The One
There are quite a few noteworthy songs in this game. But I had to go with this due to the classic reverberated feel of the song. Blends well into the game!

Game: Little Big Planet
Artist: Matt Clark & Kenneth Young | Song: Gardens Theme
This one is definitely on the list. When you start playing this beautiful game, the music just carries you away to the land of dreams. Pure bliss!

Game: Classic Doom
Artist: Richard Craig (Originally, Robert Prince) | Song: Sign Of Evil (Remix)
The last level of Classic Doom, Episode 1. The inevitable ending.
I've intentionally added this ambient remix to the original MIDI version. The music here is dark and gloomy while the tune is purely sublime. It fits the level perfectly! It almost feels like the founders of Unitology are welcoming Isaac Clark to Necromorph transcendence.

Game: Rayman Jungle Run
Artist: Christopher Heral & Billy Martin | Song: Ole
This is an awesome platformer for mobile devices. It's full of short jingles on a repeat without loosing luster. The music in-game has high production values like none other I've come across for mobile phones. I latched a liking to this particular jingle because it's funny and accompanies some of the easy-go-lucky levels perfectly.

That's the list I could conjure up. If you like this, please +1, comment or share for that should point me in the right direction. If there's anything else that ought to be in this list or something you like in particular, feel free to share - I'll check em out! After all, music is mean't to be shared!

Rare Zero Songs

So this has been a long pending post - almost 6 years to boot! (Woot da Fook!)

Below are some links to few rare songs by Zero. I don't have much information about where they sprouted from. I happen to find these through friends and having scavenged forums.

If you were or still are an avid zero fan, then these are stuff difficult to come by.

This was released a single compiled into one of the Independence Rock albums back then. Had this song ripped from the CD then lost it when the system crashed. Thankfully, a friend of mine was able to send a copy to me. This is as good as the band gets - a rare original song!

I've tried looking as much as I could but cannot find the lyrics to the song. If anyone happens to know or figured it out themselves, please do share! :)
This is a cover of the Queen's song of same title. I personally find this cover more listenable in comparison. But being a crazy song to boot, I hardly ever listen to it.

Maybe if you've heard the Queen's original, you might want to check this out!
This is a cover of The Police's song of the same name. I personally feel Rajeev Talwar & Warren Mendonsa did an awesome work of hitting those notes right. This version is any day better to the original and is a must check out!

So there you go, few goodies up for the grab!

P.S. Rant:
I've some of the audio recordings of Zero's St. Andrews gig in all it's unplugged awesomeness but not of high quality. Below are the track list:

  • Ayaya
  • Everyday Love Song
  • Hate (in E minor)
  • Hole Hearted (The Extremes cover)
  • I Ain't Satisfied
  • Mariachi
  • No More Mistook
  • PSP 12

You might want to send me a request if interested!

Back!

I'm back after 5 long years -- Phew!

I'll be continuing to cover my musical interests and the music on my mind. But first, I'll be normalizing the older posts to new font/look, fixing expired links and correcting grammar wherever needed!

I've normalized all the Zero album posts & fixed the expired links to Google Drive. (Cloud rocks!) I'll be normalizing all other posts in the coming few days.

There're couple of long pending stuff that needs to be shared - stay tuned!

Zero - Procrastination

Zero's 3rd and last album released in 2005. Has some good songs, couple covered in the earlier album(s) and remastered. I personally like this album due good song structure & songwiriting, Way better than many mainstream bands. However what I didn't like is its price tag of 200 bucks only?? C'mon!

So yeah, I've come across some unsatisfied souls wandering in search of procrastination which they missed out on. So i'll be putting the songs for download.

I'll also be fixing the links for the prev two albums. So with this, i complete the zero albums. There're bunch of songs, bootlegs, clips which ofcourse i'll keep procastinating on. Happy Procrastination & a New Year!!

Samurai Champloo

I, like every other lazy blogger comes across a time when blogging further becomes a obstacle. So yeah, I haven't been blogging for a whole year (WTF!). I hope to continue blogging now and share the music that keeps ringing in my head these days.

I'm actually into a lot of anime music toff late. I can't really think of much to suggest, but I've been watching anime called Samurai Champloo for a long time now, over and over & I have come to like some of its soundtracks. So yeah, i'd like to post links to few songs that I like. The music is very much J Hip-Hop, J Pop.

The anime is set at a time period when pop culture started to emerge and fashion was slowly taking roots. As for the anime, check it out if anyone is into rad samurai action, comedy and adventure.

Opening Theme - Battlecry by Nujabes
Closing Theme - Shiki No Uta (Song of Four Seasons) by Minmi
Fly by Tsutchie + Fat Jon

There're some pretty interesting photography done as well in the anime, giving out a ambient and moody vibe, for which of course you'll need to watch the anime.

(Feels good to be back!)

The Must Checkouts!

Well ..its been quite the time now since I've been on the lookout for good rock instrumentals.

Sometime back, i came across this guy called Arjan De Jong hosting a homepage where he posts his recordings. I must its simply amazing. Most of the instrumentals are pretty amazing stuff and his work vary from Rock to Blues to Jazz. He also seems to have implemented some artistic styles in his clips & recordings.
At least 4 to 5 such songs in my playlist everyday.
A Must Check Out!

You've gotta appreciate this work by Toshiro Masuda.
I came across this artist through the popular hit anime 'Naruto'. Really amazing instrumental soundtracks. Very energizing riffs and lead with amazing traditional instruments. A never-before feel. I won't say anymore about this. Please download it and feel it for yourself.
A Must Check Out!

Rei Fu - Tsukiakari (Moonlight)

I've been watching this anime "Darker Than Black" for quite the time now & a certain ending theme song "Tsukiakari aka Moonlight" by a Japanese musician Rei Fu caught my attention.

Its a soothing song with beautiful lyrics with feeling of nostalgia to it. A good song to check out.

Rei Fu - Tsukiakari (Moonlight)

The translated lyrics go:
I let the light of the moon in from the blue, blue sky
I’m captured by things such as sweet and faint thoughts
Underneath this moonlight, without anyone knowing
I called out your name only
I was searching for the future forever
Within this light

On a night when it seems like I can’t tell you anything
There isn’t a moment when I don’t think about you
Never passes any day, I don’t think about it
So that my lost heart reaches you

Underneath this moonlight
Call my name
I’ll definitely go meet you, at any place
Within this light

..Yeah, the English lyrics wont make much sense until you give it a listen.
